Norfolk Record Office online catalogue

Welcome

Welcome to NROCAT, the Norfolk Record Office online catalogue. From here you can find information about many of the catalogued holdings of the Norfolk Record Office. We are in the process of converting our paper catalogues into electronic format and are adding more catalogues to NROCAT weekly.

Availability of Records

Most of the documents described in this catalogue can be seen on demand in the Norfolk Record Office searchroom, either by requesting the original document or by consulting a microfilm or other facsimile copy of it. Two categories of document, however, cannot be made accessible in the searchroom.

Some documents are described as ‘unfit for production’, which means that access to them has been restricted until conservation work is carried out in order to prevent the loss of information from continued handling.

A small number of records in the catalogue are closed to public access for a defined period because they include sensitive personal data or confidential information. In these instances, the Record Office has given an explicit assurance to the depositor of the records that they will be closed to public access for the specified period. Closed records are identified in the ‘Access Status’ field, and the period of closure is also given in the catalogue entry.

You can make a request for information which may be in a closed record under the Freedom of Information Act, 2000 or the Environmental Information Regulations, 2004. For more information about making a request, see the Norfolk County Council website. Making a request does not guarantee access to the information you ask for, as there may be a valid exemption from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.

Personal Data

Some personal data is included in the catalogue. We have taken all reasonable care to ensure that we operate within the provisions of data protection legislation. If you believe that any of the data in this database causes or is likely to cause substantial damage or distress to you or any other living person, please contact us with specific details.
